I plan to wait another 1 to 2 years before upgrading. Windows 10 is still in its initial phase and may not work well with certain drivers or applications. I’ll monitor your drivers for compatibility first, then consider an upgrade.

It's not the case. It would have been different if it had been.

We're discussing bugs and glitches. Would signing up for Windows 10 at its release on July 29th be a smart move?

Compatibility remains a major concern. Based on the reported issues, it's still not fully polished. Consider the state of Vista before SP1. Clearing your hard drive seems unlikely, but backing up your data is wise in case of failure. Regular backups are recommended, especially if your hard disk or SSD might malfunction.

Similar to any new operating system, driver problems, quirks, and bugs will likely appear. Review the service updates from other Windows versions. The free upgrade remains valid for just 365 days after release; if you delay, full retail cost applies. I plan to wait until around April or May 2016 before upgrading.

This update is completely compatible with all 7 and 8/8 drivers. It works well with most applications you can run on those systems except for AV software. The biggest change is WDDM 2.0, but it still supports older versions like 1.2. Both Nvidia and AMD now offer WDDM 2.0 drivers through Windows Update. Microsoft has been promising this since the first preview, and they’re correct—the only real issue is AV software, which will be fixed quickly, probably before Windows 10 even launches.

It's not a disaster to get it.
