pc specifications: b560 asus prime plus i5-11400f gtx-980ti hyperx 3200 8*2 gb 2 hdd wd drives ssd nvme m.2 a2000 kingstone. one day i began my pc—it booted into bios without any recognized drive, showing both hdd but not the ssd. i shut it down, disconnected all cables except 24pin and 8pin, reset the cpu fan, and reconfigured ram. after restarting, the problem persisted. i took my pc to a repair shop who said my ssd and m.2 ports aren’t working—they tried their own drives, which didn’t appear in bios. they also tested my ssd on their machine and it didn’t show up there. i have two questions: a) could both m.2 ports have failed simultaneously? b) is there a way to verify if my motherboard’s m.2 ports are functional without replacing them?

It seems like the SSD technology was added later to the existing HDD setup. Sometimes this causes problems, though a BIOS refresh could potentially resolve it. Of course, that’s just one possibility.

The shop appeared unaware. You must adjust the boot sequence in BIOS and verify if it recognizes the NVME device. This process can be complex since BIOS offers multiple settings to modify, requiring you to search for "boot order." Ensure no other drive is active until the problem is resolved, particularly avoiding any drive with a Windows installation.

the nvme ssd isn't appearing in the bios at all, yet any sata connected drive shows up in bios and none of them run windows. even after removing all drives, the nvme ssd remains invisible and the system always boots into bios stating no boot drive detected.

Verify if your motherboard supports boot priority overwrite... I faced a similar problem and it resolved it. Also, you might want to try resetting the CMOS as well... I don't believe both M2 slots are faulty, that would be unusual.

I checked various ports using different storage devices. It seems the only bootable drive was the NVME SSD. You mentioned trying to install a boot sector on one of the SATA hard drives, but that attempt also failed.

SATA functions properly but the M.2 drives aren't working, specifically my Kingstone A2000 500GB model.

Disconnecting your SATA drive will stop data transfer and any connected devices will lose power.
