I recently upgraded my RX 580 to a RTX 3070ti and gave my partner my old GPU. Earlier, while trying to install the latest drivers, my PC shut down completely and the fans ran at full speed. After waiting ten to fifteen minutes, I restarted it and found it working fine. Recently, while playing War Thunder, I noticed framerates dropped to 15-20 FPS, whereas with the RX 580 it was smooth at around 150 FPS. I also realized Discord’s webcam was consuming over 90% of my GPU’s 3D performance, causing the rest of the system to lag. When I reinstalled the drivers, the same problems appeared, but this time the fans took longer to start and I noticed heat coming from the vents. I checked the temperature and confirmed it was quite high. I’m looking for a way to fix the low FPS, the 3D usage issues, and the driver problems all at once.
Execute DDU, reboot, apply drivers, then restart again and attempt once more.
After removing your display drivers, you can still follow the rest of the setup process. Just ensure your system is properly configured and any missing features are reinstalled or adjusted accordingly. You won’t be completely unable to see anything if you complete the steps correctly.
It will utilize the integrated Microsoft Basic display adapter drivers.
Sure, I’ll keep that in mind. I should mention that during the wait for responses, playing a YouTube video while my camera is active is using up most of my GPU’s 3D capacity right now.
Seems like the main issues were resolved. Everything runs smoother now, and performance is improved. I still had the RX 580 drivers, so I removed them, installed the NVIDIA ones just in case, and then the 3070ti drivers. There were a few startup problems, but they shouldn’t be lasting.
If you're referring to a black screen moment, Windows is installing NVIDIA drivers, but since they're outdated, the one you installed should replace them. It's wise to disconnect from the internet while using DDU, as this prevents Windows from downloading the newer drivers automatically.
