The Nvidia control panel isn't allowing adjustments to your monitor's refresh rate.
I bought a new monitor (AOC AGON AG275QXN) and tried to adjust the refresh rate from 60Hz to 165Hz since it supports that speed. After clicking apply, the Nvidia Control Panel automatically reset it back to 60Hz. I looked for fixes online and found many recommendations to update drivers. But after updating, the problem worsened—now the panel crashes each time I attempt to change the refresh rate. (Driver version: 8.1.940.0)
Preferably configure it through Windows Display Settings, though often monitors come without the ability to boost the refresh rate. Typically, you need to activate the on-screen display feature to switch to an overclocking mode.
You might attempt a custom resolution in the Nvidia Control Panel at the same location you were adjusting earlier, though success is uncertain if it wasn’t already working. It seems there could be an unset setting within the monitor’s OSD, as similar configurations are needed for high refresh displays. Typically 144Hz should suffice. Have you experimented with a different display port from your GPU or connected another input to the monitor? Are you using the original DP cable or a reused one? You could also try swapping the cable to check for any unusual behavior.
I've changed the display ports on my monitors, and the issue moved to the other one that was functioning fine. The Nvidia control panel is no longer causing problems.
Support the cable or port connected to the GPU. This suggests the problem likely lies there.
