I just assembled a new computer and it keeps shutting down unexpectedly. After a fresh install of Windows, I switched only the RAM speed settings, but the issue has worsened. It used to run smoothly for 10-20 minutes without freezing, but now it freezes right after the first minute of booting and restarts, displaying the error message "C:\windows\system32\logfiles\srt\srttrail.txt". I checked the Event Viewer and attached a screenshot of the logs. Your system specs are: Core i9-13900K, 4GB RAM, 2x32GB DDR5, ROG Z790 hero motherboard.
Even the log doesn’t display relevant information about your crash. Turn off XMP in the BIOS and check—there’s a bugcheck entry there that often points to RAM issues.
Be mindful of RAM that appears on the mainboard compatibility list.
I tested both RAM modules, but it seems one is defective. The system won’t boot at all with either one; the other works fine. It’s possible the issue was detected when trying to use XMP mode.
Dual channel memory is typically delivered together; if one fails, both must be returned. If purchased separately, request a complete kit for the new RAM and verify the part number aligns with the supported model on the official vendor list.
