I constructed my computer a few months back and suddenly it began freezing unexpectedly. When it runs for a reasonable amount of time with little load, it freezes. Under heavy stress tests, the system also freezes. I have to force a hard reset using the case power button. If I attempt to power it back up immediately, the screen lights up and fans spin, but it doesn’t stay on and keeps turning off and back on repeatedly without any monitoring. If I unplug and plug it back in, it powers on normally but freezes much quicker this time, around one minute. I have reinstalled Windows and unplugged all peripherals, but the issue continues. A CPU test indicated 7% throttling—its meaning is unclear. It functioned without problems for a few months, but now it freezes constantly.
Could this be related to hardware or BIOS? Are there any quick methods to help identify the problem? I’m confused.
Specs:
- MSI MPG Z790 Edge Wi-Fi
- Latest BIOS I7 13700K
- Evga 3080 FTW
- Evga Supernova 1000+
- Corsair DDR5 6200MHz
- 10 Lian Li Infinity Fans / 2 Lian Li Streaming GPUs/MB
I have the Kracken elite 360 linked to mb pump header. Three lian li infinity fans are mounted on the aio and seven more in reserve. Temperatures remain stable under light load, staying below 30 seconds for the CPU and 40 seconds for the GPU. The fans are managed via Connect 3 software. A CPU benchmark showed 7% throttling; does this indicate an issue? Intensive tests always complete before Windows 10 freezes. I've replaced the RAM and GPU, reinstalled Windows, but using onboard graphics still fails. Performance peaks in the morning and freezes repeatedly after restarting. BIOS functions normally without freezing. Are you wondering if it's related to SSD, CPU, GPU, or RAM?
Honestly, besides your temperatures my concerns are about thermal throttle then shutdown. Did you forget to remove the plastic from the cooling block? It should be properly mounted on the block with hoses and so on, ensuring the cooler doesn't trap bubbles in the pump.
What could have shifted since everything seemed normal?
I think there might have been an early failure of the pump.
The tube could be blocked or air might have entered.
