Yesterday I installed fresh RAM modules. I switched from my previous HyperX HX426C15FBK2/16 2*8 GB 2666MHz to the new Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 2*16 GB 3600MHz model. With the older sticks, I could enable XMP and successfully overclock to 3000MHz without any problems. However, with the newer RAM, any adjustments to settings won’t boot properly—no XMP support, only MHz changes, and it won’t start anymore. It’s currently running at 2666MHz. Modifying the voltage still works. I expect a screen once it powers off and restarts, restoring BIOS settings to defaults. My motherboard is MSI Z270 GAMING PRO CARBON, CPU is Intel Core i7-7700K, GPU is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, OS is Windows 10 Home 20H2 x64, and power supply is a 800W unit from Lepa. Someone might be able to assist with this issue.

First, verify that your RAM is listed in the QVL for your specific board: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/...port-mem-4. You might attempt to use a higher voltage—such as 1.4V or 1.45V if XMP demands 1.35V. Additionally, try booting at a lower frequency initially so the board can adapt. Run the XMP profile but set the frequency to 3200MHz first. After rebooting, enter BIOS and adjust the clock speed to 3466MHz before trying again. Keep repeating this process until you reach 3600MHz. If it still fails, the memory controller on your board may be weak, making high speeds unattainable due to hardware limitations. Remember, XMP is considered overclocking and there are no guarantees it will succeed. The speed listed on the packaging is a manufacturer's estimate, not an assured outcome.

Thanks for your tip, and I've managed to achieve a little. So I've got XMP now on with the sticks running at 3066. But can't get any higher. I couldn't get 3100MHz to post, even with turning the voltage up to 1.5V, and I'm not really comfortable going any higher. I also couldn't find my memory on the MSI website of supported sticks... Anyway, if there is something else I can try to achieve higher speeds that would be great. My rig is bottle necked at different ends anyways, but with the current situations I can't build a new rig. I guess I have to be happy with what I have so far.

It appears the memory controller on your chip is limited to around 3000MHz. To reach 3600MHz, consider adjusting the primary timings and configuring them manually rather than relying on XMP. A possible setting is 20-22-22-42-64 in that sequence. Apply the voltage at 1.35V, set the command rate to 2T, and keep other parameters auto. Press F10 to save and exit, then fine-tune each timing individually if you boot up successfully.
