the nvme drive has a light that signals it's functioning, but it didn't activate consistently. when i restarted the pc and swapped the nvme slot to the lower position, everything worked properly afterward.

It occurred once more, when I started MH Wilds on PC, and I’m not sure if it was linked to MHW or if other titles worked properly.
