The new router functions for a maximum of 30 seconds [RESOLVED]
I purchased a new router (Motorola MR2600) and connected it to my cable modem (SB6141). All indicators lit up and everything seemed fine for about 30 seconds. Then the internet connection failed completely. My NAS remains reachable, but both wired and Wi-Fi links dropped. The lights on both devices appeared normal at first, though further inspection revealed the router was showing "limited connectivity" for IPv4. There was a renewal option that worked briefly before reverting to the same issue after 30 seconds. IPv6 never connected, which matched what my modem displayed as IPv4 only. When I restored the old router on the same modem, the problem disappeared. Based on being able to renew without rebooting, it seems like a timeout setting might be the cause. Others who tested this router didn’t report similar issues—they just said plugging it in works fine. I plan to call customer service later, but first I need to understand what’s going on.
The SB6141 supports IPv6 as well. I’m using a Comcast modem and receive both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. The exact settings depend on your ISP. Remember, some providers once required the MAC address of connected devices. You might want to check if your new router offers MAC address cloning so you can transfer the old router’s MAC address.
Thank you for your assistance. The old MAC address wasn't accessible since it appeared as a dropdown list; I chose one and it's now functioning correctly. It has been operational for roughly 30 minutes.
