The new NVMe SSD appears in the BIOS settings but is missing from Disk Manager.
I recently created a clone of my old SATA Samsung SSDs onto new NVMe storage while upgrading to the AM5 socket (from Intel 8th gen). I started up and everything functions properly except for my second drive (Samsung 4TB 990 Evo Plus), which isn’t listed in Disk Manager and doesn’t appear even after a full scan. The BIOS recognizes it, but Device Manager reports it won’t start (Error code 10). I searched online and followed advice from others who faced the same issue. I removed the device via Device Manager and tried rescan—this briefly resolved the problem, though only temporarily. Some users removed all MSI/AMD chipset drivers, suspecting bloatware caused the problem, but that didn’t help either. Back then, both drives were virtual disks with extended volumes across several SSDs. I’m not sure if that’s related. The boot drive appears normal. I don’t have any other SSDs or SATA devices connected. The system runs AMD 7800X3D MSI B650 GAMING WIFI Plus, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB in M2_1 (no issues), and Samsung 990 EVO Plus 4TB in M2_2 Ripjaws S5 16GB x2 with Windows 11 4080 GPU (this isn’t relevant).
I've tested various hardware troubleshooting techniques. A fresh Windows installation resolved the issue. Appreciate the help!
After the changes, gaming caused the issue again. It’s unclear whether you should return the drive or the motherboard.
It seems your PC isn't recognizing itself as a laptop. This might be due to using a Samsung NVMe from an HP laptop, which is designed for that specific system. It's possible the device is tailored for HP hardware, including the firmware name in its revision file. Have you explored Samsung Magician and verified the information or updated the firmware there?
Never checked Samsung magician. Will test it out. How can I tell if my PC sees itself as a laptop? (Note: The drive was bought brand new on Amazon and sealed upon delivery. I also made a full clone of the secondary game library drive from a different desktop PC.)
