The new M2 MacBook Air is experiencing slow charging.
I recently purchased this Mac and compared it to my 2012 model. It charges much more slowly, especially during intensive tasks. The included 30W charger seems adequate, but I’ve noticed other options available on Apple’s website. When the Mac is off, it charges a bit faster, though I still prefer using it while charging. The slow charging performance is concerning.
Refers to a moderate level of power usage, typically around 20 watts under load. The description highlights limited capacity for additional power without affecting performance.
occasional gaming sessions or downloading a game in that area can cause significant slowdowns
Which exact M2 MacBook Air model are you using? You can verify this through System Preferences about the About This Mac page. Also, is there any device between the charger and the MacBook Air? I’m wondering because it’s typical at work for people to insert a multi-port adapter to add USB-A ports, but they often overlook the requirement for 15W power delivery. So when they connect, they use a 29W charger, yet it only provides 14W—insufficient for proper charging.
MacBook Air (15-inch, M2, 2023) includes a 2-port 35W USB-C charger and a USB-C to MagSafe cable. It also supports charging via its Thunderbolt 4 ports, and you can use a 70W fast charger. Please confirm whether you're using the included 35W charger with MagSafe. If not, check if you're employing another charger or cable. If switching cables, provide a link. For USB-C connections, share any adapters you're using. In System Report, view power details to identify the source and troubleshoot accordingly.
No. That's not actually seeing if you have an issue and trying to fix it. That's saying rather than find out where the leak is in your basement, you just buy a new house. You should troubleshoot this. So, let's cycle back to: Are you using the included 35W charger + MagSafe cable? If you are, do you have anything else also plugged into that charger? If you aren't, is it because you're using a different charger, or different cable? If different charger, please link it If using a USB-C cable instead, please link it, and, let me know if you have any sort of multi-port adapter in between.
You're using MagSafe together with the included 30W charger. No other devices are connected. Charging speed decreases when you turn off the MacBook or close the lid, but it charges much faster otherwise.
