I purchased an HP Envy x360 equipped with a Ryzen 5 processor. I'm attempting to dual boot Windows and Ubuntu, but once I power on the USB and choose install or try it, the screen goes black. I've turned on legacy mode, and secure boot is disabled in the BIOS.

You didn't rely on etcher.io for the USB setup. Typically, avoid legacy mode as well.

I managed it. I thought the installation USB might have failed, but I've always been fine with it.

It seems unclear what you're asking about. Could you clarify if you're referring to a boot issue, an operating system compatibility question, or something else? That way I can provide more accurate guidance.

Windows is running smoothly. I’m having trouble opening the installer or preview CD. As soon as I try to select one, it crashes. I’m open to using Fedora.

If you're using Ubuntu 18.04, consider switching to Ubuntu 18.10. Should that not resolve the issue, try Manjaro Linux, as it appears to be the best option at the moment. These two distributions seem to have the latest updates available.

Ubuntu is just one of many distributions; it's definitely not the latest. SolydXK, Fedora, Aptsid are also up-to-date. MX, Tanglu, SUSE and Frugalware are similarly current.

The Manjaro installer offers the choice of using custom drivers instead of standard ones, which can cause problems on certain hardware. If the installation begins successfully, it usually points to a driver-related issue rather than a hardware or BIOS problem. Try Manjaro and you'll see if that resolves the matter.

They offer a feature freeze that covers the kernel and drivers, even addressing bugs in drivers. Should I recall how Linux manages newer PCs? It gets updated only when you have an older system.
