I recently assembled a PC for my girlfriend and need some guidance. I bought a Ryzen 5 5500, a Gigabyte B550M K AM4 motherboard, and 16 GB of RAM. I installed the PC in an existing case and added an old GTX 660 Ti I purchased earlier (since I couldn't afford a new GPU). After booting up, everything seemed to function properly—downloaded software and ran Cinebench R23 without issues. It moved to my gaming desk, where it also worked well for a while. Then the next day it stopped displaying on the screen even though it was still connected. I restarted it and it worked again, but the problem returned later. I checked all cables, fans, and connections, confirming they were secure. Still unsure if the GTX 660 Ti is the cause or something else. Please help!

Given the outdated GPU, it seems the problem might exist. That said, switching to another display cable could resolve the issue, as this is something you'd often encounter.

I don't believe it's the HDMI cable since it performs very well for my Xbox I've usually connected it. I might test a different HDMI cable tomorrow but I'm likely picking up a refurbished GTX 970 in town. That means I won't be able to confirm if the issue was with the GPU.

Hi there, Do the PC experience issues when the screen goes dark or does it keep running without any output? When you finally regain a functional desktop, have you looked into the Windows Event Viewer? Click the 'This PC' icon on your desktop, choose Manage, then expand Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System. Most entries will look confusing, but if you find an error like 'nvlddmkm has stopped responding...', it usually points to a GPU problem or driver issues.

You can often tell if your PC is still working by checking for any response, such as pressing num-lock or caps-lock, and observing the lights on your keyboard when activated. If those indicators work, it suggests the system isn’t crashed.
