The new 5700X is experiencing throttling, and it's not due to thermals.
Upgraded recently from a Ryzen 5 3600 to a Ryzen 7 5700X and immediately observed an unusual issue. This was my first time replacing the CPU. After running several benchmarks, the first red flag appeared in Cinebench R23 – my score dropped to 8100, which was lower than what the older model achieved. Using Open Hardware Monitor, I saw that under heavy load, the clock would drop from around 3.6GHz to about 2.4GHz and stay there during the test. The problem has been consistent across different workloads; sustained stress always reduces performance. I haven’t seen thermal throttling either – temperatures stayed steady between 56-58°C, with a peak of 63°C, which isn’t high enough to trigger cooling limits. When I stop the benchmark or ease the load, speeds return to normal. At lower usage (10-15%), all cores run near 3.6GHz and increase to about 4.5GHz when needed. Anything heavy slows everything down significantly. This behavior wasn’t present with my previous CPU. Did I make a mistake? Am I misunderstanding something? Please help!
Review your power configuration in BIOS; it seems a surge or restriction could be occurring if the clock drops rapidly.
Problem resolved. Added Ryzen Master and started Curve Optimizer. No more issues—performance reaches around 4.6GHz under load and handles up to 82°C.
