The new 144hz display doesn't instantly reach 144hz, sometimes shows black on full screen

At first, I assumed the issue was related to the overclocking setting to reach 165hz, but even after turning it off and setting it to 144hz, the same problem persists. When playing in full screen, it freezes at around 60-62hz (based on the Nvidia performance overlay) and then briefly turns black for about three seconds before returning to 144hz. Alt-tabbing elsewhere triggers the issue again, usually after roughly ten seconds. Occasionally it flickers to black several times every fifteen seconds before stabilizing. What could be causing this? It didn’t occur initially, so I’m assuming it’s not a hardware fault but likely a software glitch that should be resolved easily.
Check the display options or NVIDIA controls, adjust the refresh rate to 144Hz.
I also used a different displayport cable, but the problem continued.
What cables have you tried? I faced a similar problem when installing my 4K display. I purchased a relatively new, high-quality cable marketed as DP 1.4a on Amazon for about $25. With that cable, I only achieved 4K at 120Hz instead of the advertised 144Hz. Switching to the cable included with the monitor resolved the issue without any problems. Apart from that, it seems the GPU might be the culprit. I’m not certain, but I recall 1080p was possible before DP 1.4a existed, which could indicate a limitation there.
