They come from various makers. The first uses the Realtek RTL8125-CG chipset, while the second features an Aquantia AQC107.

The first card required a single PCIe slot while the newer model uses a dual 4x PCIe slot. The differences in slots aren't causing issues; it might just be overheating problems that appear only during initial downloads, but switching the NIC on and off resolves the problem for extended use.

Have you verified the latest firmware version? https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1045619/ These cards often encounter problems with older firmware versions. Both units are up to date and remain highly reliable; one is used for everyday tasks while the other powers my gaming setup, both experiencing frequent use.

The firmwares available on Asus and Marvell sites aren't compatible with my card due to its v2 revision. Search results indicate no newer updates exist.

It's puzzling, isn't it? It looks like they might be using a different manufacturer's chip. Should we verify if the firmware confirms it's still the Marvell or Aquantia set? With the variety of NBASE-T cards and only 2.5Gbit speeds, I’d usually suggest the Intel 225 B3 revision, though some users still face issues with it, even though it’s more affordable.

Many people checked online recently and found that turning off IPV4 and IPV6 coalescing in the adapter settings helped stop network drops.
