Looking into whether others have used the MSI Meg X570 Unify with the Ryzen 5 1600 AF CPU. It isn't shown in the supported CPUs list, but it functions similarly to the R5 2600. Someone should confirm if it works or not. Thanks!

Uncertain about this but it applies to certain scenarios. All AM4 boards are compatible with most Ryzen chips, except a few A320 models and the third-gen Ryzen. It's not because of a big price gap, but rather for practical reasons. Still, I’m sure it will function properly.

He was mostly confident but tried to stay optimistic. Right now I’m running on a budget CPU and getting decent memory while saving for a better GPU, power supply, and other parts. In the meantime, I’ll keep using what I have right now.

X570 boards aren't compatible with first-gen (14nm) Ryzen components. This includes older models like the Ryzen 1600, 1700, 1800x series, as well as the 2200G and 2400G. The Ryzen 1600 AF is an exception—it's a 12nm chip which might work. Few people have used a X570 with a Ryzen 1600AF. Generally, it's not worth it to buy such a motherboard or even think about getting that CPU. Opt for a budget-friendly B450 board instead. The investment of around $50 won't provide much value compared to upgrading RAM, adding a GPU, or improving your power setup. A little extra gas won't significantly boost performance over what you'd get with a standard board.
