The MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 board fails to turn on after being turned off for a while or extended periods.
Looking for clues to determine if others encountered similar problems with either the MSI MAG B550 or my previous EVGA PSU. I've attached the build details here: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/vannac/saved/#view=8zTNpg I reused some parts from a prior setup, including storage, and one of those items was the PSU. A few months back I returned from a trip and when I turned on my PC, it didn’t respond at all as though no power was present. I began investigating the PSU since it was an older part and removed the 24-pin connector from the motherboard, connecting it to a test cap to check if it would start up. Immediately after flipping the power switch, the PSU came back online, and once the connector was reinserted everything functioned normally. Recently, the same problem resurfaced (this time the PC shut down completely). The day before yesterday I powered off the machine and tried to boot; no response when I pressed the power button. I repeated the troubleshooting steps, and the PSU started again, but after reconnecting the 24-pin connector it failed to power on. Although I don’t see any lights on the motherboard itself, my Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card showed an illuminated LED when the connector was back in place, indicating some power was being drawn. While the issue occurred previously, I discovered a discounted MSI power supply and decided to purchase one as a precaution. Tonight I plan to swap the PSU, but if that doesn’t resolve it, I’ll post here for advice. It seems the motherboard still has a three-year warranty from MSI, but I’m really concerned about the motherboard itself.**
Just an update, I've tried a different power supply and had the same behavior with no boot, no POST. Weirdly, disconnecting and reconnecting the original EVGA PSU seems to allow the motherboard to power back on (previously I would be able to get into Windows), but now only lights come on the board and there's no display or keyboard/mouse input/output. I also notice the power switch led blinking now steadily now. I'm going with mobo failure and have opened a web ticket with MSI. Anyone have experience with MSI 3 year Mobo warranties? How many more hoops will I have to go through with them to get this replaced? Am I better off just buying a replacement board?
