I increased the overclock of my 970 with MSI afterburner, setting the power limit to 110% and the temperature limit to 86%. The core clock was initially at 155, then tested up to 180. The memory performed well at 400 MHz. On the first day everything worked smoothly around 56°C. I played GTA V stably at about 60 FPS without any issues. The next day in League of Legends, a dark green screen appeared on my monitor, disappeared, and caused crashes. This happened even when I reduced the overclocking. However, keeping it at stock settings didn't cause any crashes.

Well ? you might want to try reinstalling the game, maybe? If it crashes and the sound keeps looping, it could be related to the program. It seems like the issue might be widespread in the community. You should probably check forums for reports and solutions, especially since League is an older title that may not run well on modern hardware. It might just depend on running the game with your card at stock settings all the time.

It seems your card won't handle that overclock. It's all based on chance—your own luck and the choice of overclocker matter. You might end up in the minority if you try to go over the limits. All you're guaranteed is the factory specifications for your card, not any extra performance.

Also, I've noticed some people have managed core clocks as high as 210+ with this card. Just remember, changing the core voltage isn't worth it.

just because they say they qualify on their card doesn't guarantee you do, after all. "luck of the draw" really applies here.

Just because they say they can on their card doesn't guarantee it for you either. Keep checking. Good luck.
What options do you have for overclocking your GPU?

The benefit of using a factory overclocked GPU lies in the fact that not every silicon board starts the same. Certain boards can surpass others in terms of overclocking, and those already overclocked are stabilized by the original manufacturer. Some factory overclocked GPUs feature specialized PCBs or designs that allow even higher clock speeds through manual adjustments, though not all can match the performance of the best ones.

The overclock adjustments work well, but they cause crashes during League games consistently—only in League, not elsewhere. Everything else functions perfectly.

Well here’s the situation — it might just be the game. Nothing is perfect. Restore your card to the default stock settings and save your OC profile for easy loading later. If the game runs smoothly under these changes and doesn’t crash when using the default settings, then the overclocking issue might be related to the game itself or other factors.

I’ve tested overclocking extensively across all systems, but it can still cause problems in certain games or programs. Keeping the OC profile helps you use it effectively where it works best. Running the game at factory speed instead is better for stability, unless you specifically want to stress-test the card against that particular game.

So, I’d use the game that’s causing crashes with overclocking to find a more stable setting. This way, you can achieve the optimal overall performance for your OC without running into issues.

I've already tested with stock settings, it functions properly. Is there a potential compatibility problem?
