I experimented with radiator/fan positioning (removed graphics card from pcie_1 and unplugged CPU power) and when I restarted the system, it wouldn't boot. After checking, my SSD wasn't being recognized in the main M.2 slot. Switching it to the secondary slot resolved the issue, but it should have worked in the primary since it always did. I thought the problem might be with the primary M.2 slot receiving power through the CPU's PCIe4 connection, so I repositioned the CPU and reconnected the power. The BIOS update didn't help. I really appreciate any advice, even though it's not a major issue—I'd love my SSD in the main slot. For clarity: motherboard: MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus, CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X, SSD: 970 EVO Plus 1TB, PSU: RMX 850.
I noticed some critical feedback about that motherboard's capacity for PCIe 4 performance. Assuming your model is up to date, I suggest using the newest AMD chipset drivers. The standard drivers were released in October 2020, version 2.10.13.408, but MSI provided an update in December 2023, version 2.10.26.336. You can compare both versions to determine which works best for your setup. If your system is older than these releases, the latest MSI update is a good starting point.

The October update didn’t help, and I’m curious if I should try telling the primary M.2 slot to expect an SATA drive instead of NVMe, given that both formats work fine with my CPU. It’s not a major issue since I can use the Gen 3 slot with my B550, but it would be great to have something from Gen 4 available.
