i have 16GB of ram and a 6GB gpu with 2GB page file on the NVme. i have 10.1GB of ram used, 6GB of GPU memory used, and page file usage at 18.2GB according to msi after burner. i don't understand if this is the page file showing available memory or not. i'm asking because my game keeps crashing and seems unstable when vram is maxed out. it was more stable when i turned the page file back on, but still not perfect. i have limited space on my nvme (only 256), so i don't want to use a page file if possible, but it seems unavoidable. i'm trying to figure this out.
MSI afterburner displays page file usage as if it's committed memory, but the actual value comes from the task manager. For accurate page file statistics, use Performance Monitor. Set the page file to 1GB initial and 4GB maximum. You can't disable it entirely, or it affects the virtual memory system. With 16GB of RAM, the pagefile will be used very little—it just needs to be present.
i haven't used a page file since 2007, but i turned it back on today to check if it was causing the crashes from being off. it doesn't seem to be the issue. however, if it's telling me that 18gb is committed out of 16+2, it looks like i should buy another 16gb stick soon—possibly a second one for up to 32gb since 16 is clearly not enough.
