I possess a SteelSeries Rival 600 mouse. Each time I power on the computer, the mouse fails to function and the lights remain inactive. After repeatedly connecting and disconnecting the USB cable, it eventually works. Regardless of the port used, the outcome stays consistent. My BIOS is current, Windows 10 is up to date, and the SteelSeries software is installed. What could be the reason for this issue?

PSU: provide make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, used, refurbished)?
Begin by checking Reliability History/Monitor for any error codes, warnings, or events recorded just before or when the mouse stops working. Observe what changes once it starts functioning again.
= = = =
Download the relevant Steelseries mouse drivers directly from the manufacturer's site using only the official tools. Reinstall and adjust settings.
Ensure you're on the genuine manufacturer's website. A URL listing the manufacturer doesn't guarantee authenticity—some sites may appear legitimate but aren't.
I discovered this driver page among several offers:
https://steelseries.com/gaming-mice...09&utm_source=Partnerize&utm_medium=affiliate
Uncertain about the exact driver or engine that matches your mouse.

Do you believe the PSU might not provide enough power for the mouse? The software for the product was obtained directly from the official site.

The broken mouse wire is likely due to wear from your usage patterns.

PSU's are essential parts that deliver three distinct voltages (3.3, 5, 12) to different system elements. Issues with any of these voltages can lead to numerous complications. Determining the PSU and its specifications is crucial during troubleshooting. Some PSUs may not endure long (low quality) or face power demands and instability that result in premature failure beyond the expected end of life.

As mentioned by @SkyNetRising, a damaged wire might be the cause. A malfunctioning USB port could also be involved. Possibly, loose connections are the issue, and once the system heats up, parts may expand and secure themselves. The main goal is to test another functioning mouse on your setup or try it on another working system. If no alternatives exist, at least you can acquire a different mouse. Also, check Reliability History/Monitor for any errors that align with when the mouse problems started. Event Viewer can be helpful but may not be very user-friendly.

If the mouse wire were damaged, this wouldn't function. Reconnecting the power cord and testing it again would resolve the issue.

Test bending mouse wire in various locations to observe any mouse disconnection or reconnection issues.

Bend it from one side to the other, softly twisting and stretching.
Even a broken wire can conduct if it contacts another part—until they separate once more....
Occasionally it functions but then fails. It moves back and forth.
