Hi all! I'm slightly embarrassed to bring this back, and I'm not so sure how you're supposed to do this on this forum - apologies if I'm doing this the wrong way, and please let me know if there's a better way to do this. So I made a post about ten days ago about a freezing problem with my mouse cursor: [SOLVED] - Mouse cursor randomly freezing momentarily? Hi all! Recently, I have been experiencing random mouse cursor freezes on Windows 10, and despite various troubleshooting attempts, I have been unable to resolve this issue. I'm using a HyperX Pulsefire Haste wired mouse on my setup. At seemingly random intervals, the mouse cursor will... forums. The summary of the previous post is: I was having intermittent freezing issues with my mouse cursor, and a few kind users here helped suggest that I update my BIOS firmware, which was about 3 years behind the newest release. This fix appeared to have worked at the time - the problem immediately disappeared, and after days completely free of any mouse issues, I was convinced the problem had indeed been solved. Alas, I may have celebrated a little too early as a few days ago my mouse freezing issue came back - slowly at first, with just one or two momentary freezes per session. Then the frequency started picking up, the terminal freezes came back, and now it's back to how it was ten days ago - the only saving grace is that the freezes aren't quite as frequent as before. The circumstances remain the same; full details can be found in my linked previous post. I've tried the same troubleshooting methods as before, and none of them have helped once again. I'm at my wit's end with this, so if anyone has any idea how to tackle this issue, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Check the Reliability History and Event Viewer. One or both tools might record error codes, warnings, or informational events just before or during the mouse freeze. Reliability History is straightforward to use and interpret; the timeline view helps spot trends. Event Viewer requires more time and effort. For guidance: Review what you discover. If needed, enlarge the Reliability History window and capture screenshots of the outcomes. You may share these screenshots here via imgur (www.imgur.com).

This might actually be related to the operating system if the BIOS update resolved the problem before this discussion began. It seems likely the issue appeared after an OS update. If not, consider clearing the CMOS (keep in mind it will erase all BIOS settings) and jot down your current configuration for reference.

I haven't received an OS update after updating the BIOS—nothing significant has changed on my system since then, which makes this issue seem to reappear without clear reasons. I plan to check if clearing the CMOS helps and will let you know the outcome.

Sorry for the delayed message, I've been quite occupied recently!
I managed to reset the CMOS on my motherboard by turning off my PC and removing the battery for a short time, but the issue remains.

Hi Ralston, thanks for the feedback!
These are the Reliability History entries from the last two weeks.

You can check the details here: https://imgur.com/a/dKv5baC
Before taking these screenshots, I kept my system running normally until a terminal froze. I wanted to determine if it or any minor freezes would appear in Reliability History or Event Viewer. It seems none did.
The only process linked to my mouse appears to be NGenuity, the software for my HyperX devices. I suspect the recorded activity was related to adjusting settings or uninstalling/reinstalling the program to see if it would resolve the issue. NGenuity is known for being unstable and often problematic, but it doesn’t seem to be the cause here since the problem continues without the software installed.
In addition, I want to share two more observations I’ve noticed:
The freezing seems more likely when I perform bigger or faster swiping motions with my mouse. During a gaming session, I was tired and moved my hand less, so I increased the sensitivity in-game. This time, the freezes happened much less often.
Sometimes, immediately after a freeze accompanied by the USB disconnect warning, my frame rate drops noticeably for about a second before returning to normal. This happens in roughly half of my freezes.
The swiping behavior made me suspect a hardware problem with my mouse, but the sudden frame drops point more toward a software issue. I’ve never experienced something this unusual, which is confusing for me.
🙁

Black Ops seems to be facing issues as well.
Restart both versions—begin with Black Ops and skip NGenuity for a while.
Check whether performance has improved or if there are other changes. Observe any error codes through the Reliability History.
If needed, reinstall NGenuity again. Continue monitoring errors.

Here’s a revised version of your text with the same length and structure:

I wanted to share a final update. The situation is still somewhat unresolved, though not entirely so. I’m not entirely sure how things stand. After two weeks without progress, I grew weary of trying to fix this problem and decided to reset my PC. While it’s usually a last resort, I thought I’d give it a shot since I had no important files and was dealing with other technical issues at the same time.

However, the problem persisted—freezes returned quickly after the reset. Eventually, I suspected a hardware issue with my mouse, possibly related to a device driver problem. I looked into it and found that some users reported issues with HyperX’s latest Pulsefire Haste drivers, specifically DPI deviation. One person even mentioned encountering a similar issue after updating drivers.

HyperX doesn’t offer older driver versions on their site, but I managed to find a Reddit post where someone provided an older driver upon request. I downloaded it and tried it, but the device still didn’t show up. Then I reinstalled the latest version (which I already had) to check if the problem was with the installation package itself.

After that, my mouse freezes still happen occasionally, though less often now. It sometimes appears as a brief pause before the game restarts, but it’s mostly gone. Most importantly, terminal freezes are completely eliminated and in-game freezes are rare now.

I’m still a bit confused. The issue hasn’t been fully resolved, but it no longer interrupts my gameplay much. I think I’ll consider this matter resolved for now.

Thanks again to everyone who helped. I won’t be actively working on this anymore since it’s calmer, but if anyone has more ideas, feel free to share. Appreciate all the support!
