I received a fresh motherboard but used an old power supply from my previous system. That old unit was sent away by FedEx, which led to this new setup. The latest one powers up with the RGB lights turning on, so I’m not certain yet. My concern is about the motherboard in question: https://www.newegg.com/asrock-x570-phant...6813157882. It has both an 8-pin and a 4-pin connector. The old board only had the 8-pin. I tried using a 6-pin, but since it lacks a 4-pin, that might be why it doesn’t turn on. The RGB lights work with the 20-pin header, making it hard to tell if power is reaching the board. Could the 6-pin issue be the reason it won’t start?

Insert the 8-pin EPS connector. Using a 6-pin might be a PCI-e power adapter, not the right choice. The additional four pins are only for extra power capacity.

I connected the same 8-pin component, but switched the 6-pin to a 4-pin connector. If it’s not starting now, the power supply might still be problematic and could have internal damage that isn’t visible in the shipping photos from FedEx or the motherboard. Even though the RGB lights are working, the issue could still be with the power delivery.

I left the power supply unplugged initially, but it started working. Now I’m connecting it to a monitor to check the output. So far, everything seems fine. It appears the 6-pin connector doesn’t work properly—when I plug it in and then take it out, it won’t turn on until I fully power it off and back on. Why is that happening?

Hmm... what exactly? If we're talking about the 6P "GPU" plug, it doesn't match the 4P "CPU" slot. Even if your power supply is the issue, you should definitely verify your connections. These parts usually come with manuals for good reasons.

Confirm that the 6-pin connector has a separate pin designated for your specific graphics card. You're fortunate you avoided damaging your motherboard.

Sure, if I need to connect the 4-pin power adapter to the motherboard, I’d have to adjust the power supplies.
