The motherboard powers on and then turns off.
Hi, I just installed a new system and every time I power on my PSU for testing, the CPU fan turns on, then shuts off and the PC doesn’t start. My specs include: Ryzen 5 7600x, Asus Tuf 6900 XT OC, Gigabyte UD850GM 850W PSU, 32GB DDR5-6000 Flare X5 RAM, 1TB 970 Evo SSD, and a Gigabyte B650M motherboard with AX series graphics card. I used a paperclip test on the PSU—it works, then stops. I’ve tried different RAM sticks and slots, but nothing seems to fix it. I’m unsure if the issue is with the PSU or the motherboard.
It turned on because I changed the PSU switch, and it works every few minutes. I’m confused about performance under load since the power supply is 850W, which is the suggested amount for AMD. Normally my CPU and GPU use about half of that. If I disconnect the PCIe cables, it won’t start at all. Would removing the GPU help? Also, I saw another light on the motherboard in IMG_6204.mov.
What method are you using to activate the system? Simply pressing the power button isn't enough to signal the motherboard to start. The cooling fan should activate initially and then shut down once it detects insufficient workload. On the power supply unit, you have a 7600x AM5 model with built-in graphics. Remove all unnecessary components from the motherboard to ensure proper setup. Make sure no cables are connected to the case, fans, or power connectors—specifically avoid the 24-pin and 8-pin EPS connectors for CPU power.
I also tried shorting by touching the ends of power headers on the motherboard with a screwdriver, but it started automatically when I flipped the PSU switch. After unplugging everything, my keyboard is still lit up, but the display port is connected to the motherboard display board. My mouse isn’t working either. The PSU seems fine, yet I’m confused about why the CPU fans stopped. I didn’t realize the 7600X had integrated graphics—they added this generation without knowing, thank you for explaining.
Certainly, it looks like your power supply is functioning properly, only the motherboard appears to be faulty.
Disconnecting the 24-pin connector from the motherboard may affect the power supply's automatic startup behavior when you turn the switch on the back.
In fact, the PSU fan didn<|pad|>, it just began after I performed the paper clip test. I removed the 24-pin connector, though I wasn’t sure if I should also take out the 8-pin CPU connector. Still, the fan didn’t spin.
