the motherboard is powered but fails to activate
The motherboard is illuminated and receiving power. I verified the front panel connections are correctly positioned. I unplugged and reconnected it, but nothing changed. Then I used a screwdriver and still didn<|pad|> to see any power issues.
Did it function before? It might be an issue with the PSU. For a "lit up" situation, it suggests an LED on the board is active, indicating the 5VSB is operational. Have you checked the PSU by connecting the PS_ON pin to ground? The PSU fan should be rotating and there should be a 12V output.
I want to be clear, I haven't connected or reconnected anything myself. My buyer has handled everything completely. (It's frustrating, I really want my hands in there.) So what happened is that it went through UPS, and when it arrived from rough handling, the fan on the GPU popped out, along with the SSD. Everything was reassembled and now it won't power on. It seems the excess wires from the PSU that weren't being used were tied into a ball and anchored by gravity. When the package was turned upside down during shipping, that ball of wires became a wrecking ball and knocked the fan out. Plus, all the front panel connectors were in that area, so I thought something might have come loose. How do you short a PSU?
PS_ON is a switchable connector. You can use PSU test plugs that have a wire to connect to this pin. Some stores sell PSUs with that included, and it’s typically green-colored wire. You can insert a needle into the wire and link it to the nearby black wire. I won’t recommend asking someone else to do that. For someone new to tech, it’s usually simpler to visit a local shop and purchase it yourself.
What bothers me most is the buyer discarded the box immediately after receiving it, and I couldn't file a claim with UPS. What's strange is throwing away a box just when they get something, especially knowing it's defective. Smh
