It will work and there will be no problems. The second option is meant solely for maximum overclocking to provide extra flexibility.

It starts up using a single connector. However, connecting both devices to the MB will activate both 12V power sources, causing each connection to consume power. For optimal performance, it's recommended to use both connectors only if the MB supports dual connections.
