The CPU market has been positive since AMD introduced Ryzen. With the launch of the Ryzen 3000, older Ryzen chips became significantly affordable and offered excellent value even if they underperform newer models. The ability to access up to 16 cores on a single core (when you have a good one) adds an extra layer of comfort.

The updated design offers better performance gains, but the slower speed might not justify it for most tasks.

The 1600 runs around 3.9GHz across the board when PBO is enabled in BIOS or you manually push it to near 4GHz on every core. This keeps single-core speed nearly comparable, because Ryzen offers better instruction per cycle than Intel even at lower speeds. Absolutely worth it—adding two cores and a solid upgrade route makes it a top choice for a gaming PC.

Based on your activities, results could be nearly double or even worse than an i5, depending on how much the workload relies on core count. It’s possible to reach around 4.2GHz on the 1600AF, mainly because of the 2600 variant. You can run a Ryzen 9 3950x smoothly on a B450 without issues.
