The motherboard failed after the USB 2.0 connections ceased providing power.
Hi All. If you need help, let me know if this isn't the right place. My ASROCK H81M HDS motherboard is likely around 7 years old now. It probably won’t power on at all. I was using my PC normally, then went away and came back to find the keyboard unresponsive—even when plugged into USB 2.0 ports. Everything worked fine with USB 3 devices like my mouse, external drive, and phone. Moving the keyboard to USB 3 resolved the issue. After a restart, the system booted without errors. The USB 2.0 port on the motherboard remains dead.
I turned off the PC, disconnected the power supply, then left it on for a few minutes to clear any residual power. I swapped the CPU, RAM slot, tried different power switches, reset the PSU, and even used a screwdriver to short the old connection. The new one still won’t turn on. My PSU is new, but I have another one available if you want to try it.
I’m wondering if others have faced similar problems—especially with CMOS battery failure or power switch issues. Is there a way to test the motherboard without turning it off completely? Could a reset button or another method help?
