Hello everyone, I recently switched from an ASUS Z370-F to a ASUS MAXIMUS X HERO on the same Z370 platform. But whenever I try to boot into Windows using my old boot drive, it keeps showing errors and jumps into recovery mode. Can anyone assist me? I’m not in a rush and don’t want to reinstall everything—my programs and games need reconfiguration, which isn’t ideal. I’m okay with keeping the same platform and boot drive since my SSD card works fine when connected externally. I’ve used a bootable USB for start-up repair before, but that didn’t fix it. Now I’m back to the Z370-F motherboard, yet I can’t boot into Windows with the same drive and still face the same issue. Is there any way to recover my previous boot drive or is it completely lost? Reinstall Windows during a motherboard upgrade. Don’t cut corners. You might manage with preserving your existing files and software and avoid any issues. Occasionally it demands a significant effort (keeping old Windows.old files and documents in an archived folder, as I did when moving from a 2600k to a 9900k, requiring a fresh install). Had to reinstall everything, but my saved games were safely backed up in a new location for the previous installation.
I’m considering a complete reinstall as my only option. Do you have the most effective method for backing up your files from your current bootable drive? I’d like to make use of it while keeping access through your docking station.
