Recently did a massive system overhaul and put in 2 new sticks of ram. Just now finding out that slots A1 and B1 are extremely problematic. Sometimes if I am really lucky it will run at 2400mhz with very poor stability (minecraft and discord crash a ton, system randomly shuts off). I've tested every stick in slot B2 and they all boot fine at 3000 mhz (advertised speed). They also all work fine in A2 and B2 configurations (primary slots), but when I try to boot with any stick in slots A1 or B1 I will get some sort of error. Slot A2 will try to boot and maybe run for a minute at 2400mhz, and B2 will usually just either make the system POST loop or shutdown entirely. I've tried using XMP and manually configuring settings, nothing works. It's not a power draw thing, I've tested multiple configurations of devices. At this point I'm either thinking something is wrong with the memory channels on my CPU or there is something wrong with the chipset or slots on my motherboard. Basically all I'm asking is if anyone else has had similar issues, and what ended up fixing it. SPECS: ASUS B450-f Gaming ROG STRIX Ryzen 7 2700 w/ standard cooler MSI AERO OC GTX 1080 2x4GB Team Group Delta RGB at 3000mHz (Have an extra 2 I'm planning to install once this is figured out)

Varying RAM speeds often clash... usually you'll only manage to hit 2133MHz if the timings match. If not, stick with the same timing requirements. For the main slots, choose the farthest compatible pair from the CPU.

They match the same brand of RAM with identical speeds and timings. The main variations I noticed were in the CPU-Z entries—one listed the micron value and another mentioned SK Hynix. I’m able to test different sticks as long as they’re set in the A2/B2 configuration. It seems the issue might be with the CPU or the motherboard.
