The most terrible virus you've ever encountered is still a mystery to me.
Everyone has encountered malware at some point. I’ve been there too—I had a scan done by my uncle that uncovered more than 400 items in Malwarebytes. We all have our rough days, so share your story and the outcome.
You encounter malware when you need to connect your computer with your younger sibling! LOL
Never experienced this before. Malwarebytes detected some PUP files and tracking cookies, meaning not every one of the 400 might be malicious (though some could be). PUP stands for unwanted programs, and TC refers to tracking cookies.
I only had one infected file—it was a virus spread via Facebook. It sent spam to everyone’s contacts, and the .rar file contained the malware. When I received it, I immediately ran all antivirus software: Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, and even AVG. None stopped it. Eventually, I switched to Firefox and performed a system restore, which resolved the issue.
Never had my computer get infected before. Remember that the 400 results from Malwarebytes also cover simple items like website cookies used for tracking. That’s why I always run a cleanup tool first to remove those false alarms. I’ve checked my security multiple times, and each time it found the bad program, locked it down and deleted it.
