Hello, your R9 380 with 4GB RAM is running on Windows 10. You're checking whether to install the latest driver or the 15.12 hotfix, and you're concerned about overheating and fan issues. The AMD support page suggests downloading the newest drivers, but it's unclear if the 16.1 hotfix specifically addresses fan problems. Installing a hotfix alone might not fix all issues—consider applying both updates if they target the same problems. The Crimson drivers you mentioned caused serious overheating, so prioritizing those fixes would be wise. Let me know if you need more details!

The issue with the fan was resolved in an earlier patch that's now included in the stable version. You'll see updates only if the changes in its documentation match your situation.

The drivers receive their release version based on the month and year they appear. For example, 15.12 corresponds to December 2015 and 16.1 refers to January 2016. AMD releases a reliable driver each December with minimal bugs. Other updates are marked as beta or hotfixes, adding features like game profiles or fixes for rare issues. If you want a stable build without frequent tweaks, choose 15.12. For those wanting to stay current and accept some quirks, opt for 16.3. Note that the fan problem only arises without a reference card—avoid installing the generic driver if you lack one, and consult your manufacturer instead.
