The modem shuts down when under pressure.
Recently my modem has been shutting down unexpectedly. It’s working fine, the coax cable is in place, and it isn’t overheating. It connects to my computer through Ethernet. I’ve contacted technicians from Xfinity or Comcast, but they only replaced the modem and the problem persists. It restarts around five times daily. I remember watching a long YouTube video, skipping ahead about an hour, then the video would load for a couple of seconds before everything went down and the modem restarted—taking 5 to 6 minutes to come back online. To test, I watched a documentary and skipped similarly long segments; the same issue occurred. It’s quite strange, and I’m curious if others have faced the same problem.
Access the modem setup page to check for log storage. I’ve noticed my modem has restarted several times recently, likely due to a faulty coax connection between my home and the street hub. Identifying the problem won’t be easy on your own, but reviewing the logs and sharing them with a technician could help pinpoint the issue.
It's surprising how many think budget consumer routers are as dependable as business equipment. I especially appreciate those who use Gigabit internet and question why a $50 device struggles with it. In this scenario, though, I'd guess the issue lies with a faulty capacitor in the router or power supply unit.
