The Mobo power switch has lost its vigor?
I've been following the forum for quite some time now, and consistently come across helpful answers or advice. With over 15 years of experience assembling PCs, I find the process equally satisfying as working with them. Recently, I encountered a new problem with my computer that I'm struggling to resolve. My system runs on an older Lian LI case, featuring an i7-6700K processor and a ROG Strix Ranger VIII motherboard, along with a ROG Strix 980Ti graphics card. This machine is about five years old. Last week, the power switch in the case stopped functioning. The PC wouldn't power on or boot at all. Although the LEDs lit up, pressing the dedicated motherboard start button worked as expected, and the bridge pins on the board also activated correctly. I assumed the case switch was faulty. After replacing the case with a Fractal Define C TG and performing a full rebuild, I cleaned everything thoroughly. Dust buildup wasn't a major issue. During the first boot, it worked fine—pressing the power button brought it up. However, now it's happening again. When I shut it down, Windows 10 closed normally, but the screen went to sleep. All fans continued spinning until I turned off the PSU. This lasted about a day before changing again. Now the PC shuts down completely, but the case power button feels sluggish—pressing it 1-4 times is needed before the system comes to life. I suspect the PSU is old and likely defective. I replaced it with a new TX650M model, which didn't help. I've tried several other steps: updating the BIOS, clearing CMOS, rechecking the dedicated power button and pin bridge, verifying the case switch, and adjusting startup settings in Windows. Everything seems to work properly once the system boots. This issue is minor in comparison, but it frustrates me because I can't figure out the cause. Additionally, I prefer not to replace components unnecessarily, as my machine is robust enough for at least a few more years. Anyone else have faced this problem and found a solution?
