Because it's labeled as story mode, I thought it might be available for free to existing players, but I haven't received any such offer yet.

It seems like a clever tactic to pressure more users for payments. Microsoft clearly aims to recoup their investment in Mojang and Minecraft.

Based on what I've noticed, it feels like a distinct experience. Think of it similar to Half-Life 2, plus HL2 episodes 1 and 2.

It seems highly improbable, possibly just a minor reduction or...something. It feels like a classic title. Imagine hoping "Tales from the Borderlands" is free if you already own it.
