The max temp on AMD FX-8350?
I want to confirm the maximum temperature for the 8350 CPU. I’ve heard it’s around 70°C on the CPU and 62°C on the core. When I run my 8350 at 4.5Ghz @ 1.4125V on prime95, the CPU temp is 66°C and the core is 52°C. With a Corsair H100i in push-pull setup, I’m seeking your advice on the safe operating temperature for the 8350. Please share your thoughts so I can be sure.
The maximum temperature mentioned on the AMD website is ~61C. It doesn't indicate immediate failure, but it means the device's lifespan will noticeably decrease once that threshold is reached.
There are the socket temperature and the package or core temperature readings. The maximum core temperature should be around 65 and the socket around 75. They typically differ by about 10 degrees most of the time, especially when under load, so when one nears its limit the other does too. The socket temperature can detect changes quickly due to the voltage and current it dissipates, particularly at higher voltages and loads.
I understand my device will automatically adjust its time once it reaches 61 degrees to help it cool. I'm in agreement with this person, though I've also learned about the 62 core and 72 socket temperatures.
The package temperature is at 80°C without overclocking, which may indicate a concern.

My package temp goes up to 80C without overclocking... am I concerned? If you mean package temperature as core temp, maybe not. AMD uses tctl for the FX-8350 and most monitoring tools show the thermal margin or report inaccurately. Thermal margin is the temperature before the CPU reaches its thermal limit, which causes it to throttle or lower voltage. For example, in AMD overdrive software I use, each core stays around 60°C at idle, but under load it drops to 20-30°C before it starts downclocking.
