Did anyone else enjoy the Mass Effect series? I went through all three over the last month and had a really great time.
I tried them multiple times, except for the initial match which I finished just once. It really appealed to me.
I recently went through ME1. MEUITM is essential for giving it a modern feel with good textures. ME2 offers a similar mod, but it caused the game to crash during my last attempt. I plan to try it again later, though it’s not on my replay list much because of Bioshock. ME3 has a very narrow field of view and has always made me experience motion sickness. I don’t get seasick or car sickness, but extended play is tough. It can be modified, but it affects cutscenes and may lead to bans if you use mods, especially in multiplayer.
the battle in ME1 stands apart from the subsequent titles. while I appreciated certain aspects of ME1’s combat, ME2 and ME3 offered a smoother experience. 2 and 3 moved at a quicker pace and felt less repetitive. one aspect I missed from ME1 was discovering areas using the Mako. The missions in 2 and 3 were well thought out, but I found it rewarding to use the Mako for exploration, even if it covered only a small part of the world. This approach is what I refer to as "environmental storytelling," where interacting with anomalies reveals fascinating details. Both 2 and 3 included this feature, such as codex items in the levels and Hammerhead’s presence, but there was a strong sense of discovery when exploring mostly unknown regions with the Mako. It seemed less fitting in 2 and 3 since they aimed for a faster overall game. The field of view matched ME2, though its proximity sometimes felt awkward. Fortunately, Bioware maintained tactical mode across all three games, providing ample time to strategize. I wish they hadn’t partnered with EA on this, as it greatly expanded the DLC spread. It took a long time to collect everything... I truly hope they release an ultimate triple pack covering all three titles and their related content, plus some controller support. I imagine EA might mishandle that too.
I've only driven the ME Trilogy a few times—only on Feros while traveling through the skyway trenches and Noveria along the route to Peak 13. The Mako isn't really a good vehicle unless you're on a very flat path, like the sections mentioned earlier. I'd rather use the Hammerhead or a shuttle than try the Mako again!
In ME Andromeda they might produce the Mako—or another model—with improved performance. The Hammerhead offered a smoother driving experience, even though I felt the Mako was quite sluggish.
I think Demiurge should have released all three titles. Mass Effect 1 stood out more because it offered separate keys that could be reused. Games 2 and 3 made a big mistake by using the same key for everything, which was really frustrating.
I enjoyed ME2 and 3 on a controller. It's tough to play those kinds of games with just a keyboard and mouse unless it's multiplayer. I still miss the accuracy a mouse gives me, especially when I'm using sniper rifles.
