I paid $5 for a Q9550. I believe that's acceptable since it's likely the second-to-last C2Q model. A single slot graphics card comes next, which should be a Quadro K2000.

Nice, when I upgraded a friend's PC I ended up choosing a Q6700 because everything seemed to suddenly cost more and I suspect some motherboards weren't listed as compatible—kind of a risky move. It appears a few years of Ryzen have already pushed even the highest-end C2Q prices down. I hope that’s the case since the cheapest Ryzen desktop CPU will easily outperform the best C2Q options. Be mindful not to fixate on older hardware upgrades; it’s easy to end up paying more for less performance than building a newer, more affordable machine. With the price you paid, it seems you did a better job than I did.
