So I have a msi meg z390 godlike motherboard, with 3 m.2 slots and 5 pci slots pci slot 1 2 4 5 slots are x16 and pci slot 3 is a x1 slot so dont worry about pci slot 3 so I have 2 980 pros m.2 ssd's in m.2 slot 1 and m.2 slot 3 the wifi card built into this motherboard is a killer networking one, broke many times, had board replaced etc, the drivers for this wifi card suck and just not gonna deal with it anymore. So I bios disabled that card and got a m.2 intel ax 200 wifi card which works so much better. The ax200 is m.2 type e so have some adapter to make it work with m.2 m and this wifi card is in m.2 slot 2 now back to pci, pci slot 1 has my 2080 which is a beefy gpu so it covers pci slot 2. pci slot 4 has a gtx 970 as a physx card and pci 5 has my optane which I recently installed. The issue is using pci slot 5 which has my optane disables m.2 3 which has one of my 980 pro ssd's. This is a bios thing by the way so cant change this lock. Only way I see to fix this would A. get rid of the physx card and move the optane to pci slot 4 (I would like to keep my physx card) B. move the 980 pro from m.2 slot 3 to m.2 slot 2 and somehow plug the wifi card in a different way. (using the built in wifi card isnt an option) Now for option B plugging the wifi card in a different way I could do usb, right now the wifi card is m.2 type e adapted to m.2 type m so I would have to adapt that to usb or just a m.2 type e to usb adapter but I also dont really have any free usb ports and feel this might be a bottle neck. I did notice my motherboard has a u.2 slot so is there a way I can adapt an m.2 type e wifi card to u.2? Or is there different way to get all this to work? Thanks

I'm not sure if the 970 provides real value; haven't you tested performance differences with and without it?

I employ certain programs that assist me somewhat, plus they allow me to utilize more than four displays.

Instead of using the current Wi-Fi adapter, there are many alternatives available in various form factors. Switching to a PCIe slot adapter offers more choices and could eliminate the need for the existing adapter altogether.

You’ll likely need a PCIe to M.2 solution if you can’t swap in the internal card yourself. It could slow things down a bit, but unless you’re handling big data transfers often, it probably won’t cause major issues.

Consider relocating the M.2 drive to slot 2 and the Wi-Fi card to the PCIe X1 adapter, using your M.2 Type E to M.2 adapter.
