Hello everyone, I’m removing the remaining parts of my hair because of problems with my Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 6. The laptop is only a few months old and comes with an Intel Core Ultra 5 125U processor, built-in graphics, one 16GB DDR5-5600MHz memory chip, a 512GB M.2 SSD, and runs Windows 11 Pro. The issue seems to be occasional freezing—about once a week or so—without any warning signs. The display stays active but the system just stops responding, not even when I press the power button for a few seconds. This has happened during Teams meetings, so I initially thought it might be related to Windows or Teams. However, when I tried diagnosing further, freezing occurred even after booting from the USB drive and running MemTest86. I don’t have the professional version of MemTest86, so it only completed four passes, but I ran it six times and never saw a problem once it froze. The Windows Event Viewer shows no unusual entries; the only error appears after a reboot stating the computer didn’t shut down properly. I’ve kept AIDA64 stability tests running for hours without freezing. LinX scans with high memory usage left about 2GB free for Windows, and everything performed well in terms of time and GFLOPs. HWiNFO stayed stable, and temperatures never exceeded 60°C. So far, the only diagnostic tool that reported issues was OCCT. If I set the VRAM to 100%, it triggers VRAM errors, but at 80% it doesn’t. This could be linked to the integrated GPU using shared memory. Since this is my business machine and everything is up-to-date, I haven’t seen any external factors causing the freeze. The last incident happened during a lecture via Teams; the clock froze on the system tray, and nothing responded until I kept pressing the power button. It also froze while MemTest86 was running, suggesting it’s not an OS or driver conflict. My next move is to try MemTest86+—it should run indefinitely instead of just four passes. It might take an hour, five days, or even longer before it stops working. I’ve experienced this about ten times, so something is definitely wrong. I’d really appreciate advice on further diagnostics or stress tests that could reveal the cause. I recently purchased my system last week and it’s becoming increasingly frustrating. I’m struggling to pinpoint the exact problem. I plan to reach out to Lenovo, in case they have more insight. Note: Issue fixed – it turned out the RAM was defective or incompatible. Once I switched back to the original manufacturer’s units (they needed replacement), everything stabilized. After that, I upgraded with a new 2x16GB DDR5-5600 from Apacer, and the system has remained consistent for about three weeks. Possible causes considered:

- Faulty third-party RAM (unlikely)
- Single versus paired sticks – the problematic ones were bought separately while the working pair was matched
- Incompatibility of the third-party RAM
- Testing with two separate 16GB sticks instead of a matched pair caused issues even when using one
- The third-party RAM might not be suitable for E14 models

In my view, the system should support various RAM speeds, but 4800MHz may be too low for that model. It could also be that the speed was just insufficient for the E14. Alternatively, it might be something else entirely – perhaps I was unlucky and both sets failed in single-stick tests. Overall, memtest didn’t reveal anything despite this being a memory concern. Maybe my expectations about what memtest detects were off, or I needed a different approach to spot the problem.
