I built a new PC for a cousin and provided him with a 2200G I briefly owned. It doesn’t boot or even reach BIOS. I tested another R3 1200 which functions and installed Windows. The motherboard model is B450-DS3H, it came pre-installed with the latest BIOS. No updates needed, from the first release through the newest versions (F1 to F32, F63). My board matches his and it worked fine in my system too. Both CPUs are sound, pins are clean and straight. The 2200G performed well in my machine and I removed it for an upgrade—not because of any problems.
How old are these bios? If a detailed bio exists that backs 5000-series chips, the 2200G might have been removed from the AGESA code. This implies you could update to an older version to run with the 2200G. That’s the only thing I understand right now.
Adjustments were frequently made to remove older device and processor support in older boards because of limited space in the BIOS chips. The 1200 model might not be compatible with newer BIOS versions. It could also be that the issue lies with an M.2 slot not recognized by the updated BIOS. They likely would deprioritize the older chip before the newer one if space for the BIOS was limited. The 1200 model functions, but the 2200g doesn't. He also experimented with the older BIOS. Have you checked the 2200g on your board to confirm it wasn’t damaged during shipping? Are there any error lights or a speaker producing codes/beeps?
The newest AGESA is compatible with all Ryzen processors. Upgrade the BIOS to the most recent release and install the latest CPU model; keep it installed if it functions correctly. If issues persist, the problem may lie with a faulty CPU, suggesting you might need to test it on a different motherboard.
