I'm an avid Mafia 1 player, probably completed it many times. When they released the remaster, I was concerned about the changes, remembering how Mafia 3 turned the franchise upside down. Fortunately, this version seems to have avoided that fate. The gameplay appears mostly faithful, with only small adjustments. Gun mechanics feel enjoyable and the visuals are impressive. There are some issues though: the models don’t match the originals (especially Tommy and Paulie), the voiceovers sound different, and the medicine cabinets are everywhere—two in one barn. In a mission, there’s only one cabinet in the whole quest, and you have to battle extra enemies to reach it. Also, the Tommy gun has 50 rounds, while the original only had 32. I was confused about that, but it turns out the Shotgun was the culprit. Overall, I’m looking forward to playing and checking for bugs before launch. If it works well, I’ll definitely buy it on day one.

I'm really excited about this, just hoping they don't make any mistakes. I enjoy both 1 and 2, but 1 is definitely one of my all-time favorite games.

Same as everyone else aboveWink. With the unimpressive remake of Mafia 2, I haven’t even considered the first part anymore. That’s telling in itself since the original is one of my all-time favorites. I just looked at the trailer and noticed a lot of positive aspects right now, though some critics have their concerns. While I was watching and forming my initial thoughts, I thought, “Alright, but what changes will they bring to the race mission and car-stealing mechanic?” Then I was surprised by the 2:45 mark and said, “Dayum, looks really good.” The second installment remains a bit unclear, but I’ll keep an eye on it. Overall, the graphics are impressive, I like the new voice acting—let’s be honest, most of the originals were poor. I just hope they maintain that authentic Italian vibe. The shooting system feels less precise now; it makes sense from a design perspective, but adding some progression would be nice. After all, if someone does something repeatedly, they should improve at it. I also think more destruction in the environment would boost gameplay. If I recall correctly, before there were just explosive barrels, that’s a big change. I also feel the gun icons are too large compared to the original minimalist style of Mafia 1. As for something that needs fixing—faces! Sadly, most characters look like they were carved from clay, especially Paulie. And the lip-sync and voice lines are off, making it even worse. It feels like an uncanny valley experience. At 6:59, for example: voice line – “They’re cops, Tommy.” lip/mouth movement – “I’m a carp.” It’s honestly like Mafia: Andromeda. For minor points – I really dislike how the environment interacts with the train and power lines at 0:33. The shadows or reflections of a tree and line almost overlap when the train passes, giving the impression that the power line darkens the train. It feels like it’s dimming the color of the train. Hopefully, they fix this before release.”

The remake appears solid, with noticeable enhancements in graphics and lighting compared to the original. It seems they’ve put in real effort, making the re-release a worthwhile upgrade instead of just adding higher-res textures. The new voice acting is fine with me—it’s been too long since I played Mafia 1, and I wouldn’t mind missing the game. The drum section runs about 50 rounds, which is a solid number. I’m not a fan of overly realistic guns in games, but for balancing purposes, realism isn’t always necessary.

I adjusted the original version. I assumed the Tommy had 32 shots, but I was confusing it with the Shotgun. Actually, the Tommy had 50.

There's a shotgun with a 32 round magazine? Why? What the hell are you shooting at that you haven't destroyed after the first 31 shots?

You might be able to transport 32 shells, though you'd need to reload after a couple or seven shots based on the type of shotgun.

They mentioned in the video they're using full mocap with facial capture. It's feasible with existing models, but it's simpler and more precise for them to match the actors, which seems likely. Same goes for finding people who resemble the originals or sound alike. Just saw one example. Remaster isn't the same as remake. Mafia 2 was a remaster, meaning it's just a refined version with updated textures. At least they improved the tunnel by adding a real cliff face. It was also a free update for anyone with the original game, which is great.

It's positioned at a prominent spot where he retrieves the medicine and stands on the ground floor in front of the stairs. That’s why I named it that—I understand the distinction. While some adjustments were positive (like snow on the road), others were difficult to accept. Even Vito’s expression bothers me, and while the original version isn’t perfect, the new one feels somewhat lacking. They’ve shifted from a vampire to someone obsessed with indoor tanning. The new character also appears harsher, and Joe’s design is similar. These characters are meant to be the main focus, but the cliff face is only acceptable if it avoids repetitive textures. The new look feels artificial, lacking realistic stone details, and I don’t see those “stone blobs” as practical. For me, it wasn’t a big deal since I didn’t notice that detail before, and I was more concerned about the speed of driving to avoid collisions. If I’d forgotten, I probably just laughed it off and thought the developers made a huge mistake. The biggest issue was how minor the graphical updates were—they actually lowered the game’s quality in some areas, especially removing realistic clothing physics. The mute character adds a touch of humor, but overall it was just a limited marketing move. People who already owned the game got a decent option, but others might have criticized them as greedy. That was probably their only choice, and they knew it.

The main worry is how the gameplay feels, it seems like a reworked version of Mafia 3.
