Budget (including currency): Country:USA Games, programs or workloads it will support: Honkai Star Rail, Genshin Impact, CSGO, Smite, other recent single-player titles. Additional notes: Current components list, need for peripherals, previous upgrades, intended purchase timeline, desired display settings (resolution and refresh rate), etc. AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-core processor Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB 66.17 CFM CPU cooler, ASUS TUF GAMING B650-PLUS Wi-Fi TeamGROUP T-Force Vulcan 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 CL32 memory, XFX Speedster MERC 319 Radeon RX 6950 XT 16 GB video card, Corsair RM850e (2023) 850W, 80+ Gold certified, fully modular ATX power supply, Phanteks Eclipse G360A mid-tower case. Desired playback: 1080p at 144fps minimum. I already own these parts and replaced the motherboard and power supply after they told me they were faulty. The build was completed about a week ago; it runs fine without a GPU, but performance lags behind my old 1070. I’ve noticed driver problems with my GPU. Any suggestions? I’m heading back tomorrow to test alternatives and see what’s recommended.

Yes, that's correct. You're connecting the monitor to the graphics card.

Verify the GPU's PCIe power connectors are connected on both the GPU and PSU sides. Check if the HDMI/DP cable is attached to the GPU or the motherboard. It seems you're using an iGPU instead of the 6950 XT.

Consider upgrading to a 2k monitor and a 16gb storage. It should support 4k smoothly and deliver a much improved experience. You're getting the value for your money.

Also uncertain about potential effects on X3D CPUs, but the newest non-Beta BIOS release and chipset drivers are worth checking. The BIOS update is my main concern since chipset drivers seem especially important for X3D CPUs with multiple CCDs.

The problem is clear—switching to the 6950 doesn’t improve performance and causes crashes. All connections are secure, but the game fails to load on the desktop and I can’t access my PC at all.

Occasionally Windows damages drivers because it assumes they’re better. Make sure you double, triple, and quadruple-check the drivers from the AMD site. Run Windows updates until necessary, delay new ones for a week or more, then apply the AMD drivers.

Your previous 1070 model was using the same Windows version, and you didn’t switch to a new operating system after upgrading components. I’d strongly suggest doing so for better performance. Keeping the same OS is acceptable, but a fresh installation is ideal. If you stick with the current OS, just verify the driver setup with DDU to rule out any conflicts.

I agree with the suggestion about using DDU. Changing from a Nvidia to an AMD graphics card means you should definitely run DDU to remove all the associated drivers.

there are two distinct versions of the AMD chipset drivers—one tailored for x3d cpus and another for others. using incorrect drivers may require reinstalling Windows to ensure proper functionality. it seems you might have installed the wrong drivers, which is likely the case. according to Jaytwocent, AMD has confirmed that reinstalling Windows is necessary for optimal performance. the process isn’t overly time-consuming if you have all the required drivers and a usb3 drive available.

note: the latest AMD sweetspot speed is reported at 6400mhz on the memory—consider upgrading to higher speeds for better gaming performance. reducing ram speeds could lead to throttling.
