Hello everyone, I recently purchased this used build: case MB511 cooler master CPU RYZEN 5 3600 MB ASUS B450 GAMING with 16 GB RAM, an ELITE 600W PSU, and a V3 GPU MSI ARMOR GTX 1080 OC. The main issue is the case is very loud, especially the power supply. I have a recording showing how intense it gets—I can barely feel the heat. Is the power supply defective or is it just making a lot of noise?
You might adjust the fans using the motherboard's own fan controller (Asus FanXpert). Alternatively, consider using open-source tools such as Fan Control. (Avoid unnecessary bloat and customize case fan curves according to GPU temperature.) It seems the sound likely originates from the case fans rather than the PSU fan at the bottom.

Fan Control might even able to controll your 1080's fan, you can try slow all the fans to identify which fan is making the noises. If it's your PSU fan, there is little you can do. Buy a different power supply or... very not recommending You can replace the fan unless you know what you are doing (This is very dangerous, not just void warranty, and you can kill yourself if you messed up. Proceed at your own risk)
The PSU is quite outdated and fits a tight budget. I already have the same 600W V3 unit in my basement, which wasn’t performing well with my GTX 1070 and Ryzen 3700X. Adding a 1080 would make it even more problematic. It also needs a case with outstanding airflow; otherwise, the fans keep spinning nonstop. Based on your video, the airflow is lacking due to the hard drives placed nearby. If you place it on the floor instead of a desk, the situation worsens because of dust accumulation. A modern PSU should resolve this issue, but avoid cheaper alternatives. Choose a semi-modular model from EVGA or Corsair for a balanced option, or go for premium like SeaSonic if you’re willing to invest more—it’ll be worthwhile in the long term. A reliable PSU is essential; it ensures smooth operation and safeguards your hardware against overcurrent, voltage spikes, or power cuts.
Thank you for your assistance. I plan to invest in a better PSU. Currently, I have one hard drive on the front and a case with only two racks for the back, which holds three HDDs and one SSD. I attempted to remove the one shown in the video, but it didn’t reduce the noise. Would you think this PSU could keep me running for a few months until I purchase a new one? I’ve already tested triple A games and run some benchmarks, and everything was working normally except for the noise.
