The laptop took a hit!
Hey guys, I attempted to load the live CD, but it got interrupted. All my files are gone! Need some help. I’m really stressed right now.
Hey there, just relax. If it were a clean setup, I’d recommend linking it to the internet and performing a fresh install with the newest Ubuntu version. Using a USB instead of a live CD would help ensure you get the latest updates. And if these issues pop up, a clean install is always the safer choice.
It might be a driver problem. Try the Manjaro live CD and use rufus to create the USB drive. I recommend Manjaro because its live CD offers better driver support compared to other distros. If that works, your issue is probably driver-related.
I'm focusing on hardware drivers, not BIOS ones. Since I don't use a universal USB installer, I can't discuss that. I rely on Etcher and Rufus, and I notice some distro images work better with Rufus than with Etcher. Regarding Manjaro, it offers an option during the live CD launch to select free open drivers or proprietary ones. Certain distros only use free drivers on their live CDs, requiring manual installation of proprietary drivers. I've had better results booting Manjaro Live USB on older hardware or unique systems where other distros fail. You don't need to install Manjaro itself, but if the live CD or USB fails to start the desktop, it likely points to a driver problem.
