The laptop starts up yet the screen shows black, after which it shuts down.
Hello everyone,
I’m facing a problem with my laptop and would value any advice or suggestions.
After leaving it off for about eight hours, it doesn’t boot up in the morning. When I try to turn it on, the lights come on and the fans start, but the screen stays off and the laptop shuts down after a few seconds. The only way to get it to work normally is to insert the battery and hold the power button for at least a minute.
I’ve tried leaving it off overnight with or without the battery, but the issue still happens. When it’s on, I use it all day without issues. The problem only appears after a long period (like overnight). I also tested turning it on without the battery and using just the charger plugged in, but it didn’t help.
The fans are functioning correctly and there are no signs of overheating.
Has anyone had a similar experience or any tips for troubleshooting this? Your help would be really appreciated.
Thank you!
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
You forgot to mention the make, model and SKU for your laptop.
If the ram on your laptop isn't soldered on, disconnect from the wall and the internal battery, disassemble the laptop, remove the stick(s) of ram, use an eraser to wipe the gold contacts on ram stick(s), wipe clean off of any eraser lint.
While the laptop is in this state, press and hold down the power button on your laptop for 30secs to drain any residual power, then reseat ram stick(s), then power with the power brick. Then power down and then reseat the laptop battery and power it without the power brick hooked up.
I'm leaning on your laptop having a grounding issue, namely your wall outlet is devoid of grounding.
Your laptop model is an Acer Aspire E1-572_0775_V2.14. I tried the cleaning procedure for the RAM sticks, but the issue remains. The wall outlet has grounding, but the charger only has two prongs; the third one was taken out to fit. Was this the cause? Should I replace the charger? I usually use the laptop without the battery, just plugging it directly into the wall, but the problem continues even with the battery.
