Hello! You’ve received a puzzle for you! Your laptop overheats significantly during intense gaming sessions—especially with titles like GTA V, Mass Effect Andromeda, and Halo Infinite. The audio becomes muffled or choppy when using headphones or Bluetooth speakers, while the screen goes dark and fans run at full speed. Only when you play more demanding games does the issue appear. Your hardware specs show a high-end build, but it seems the CPU is struggling under load. After checking temperatures before the screen freezes, it’s clear the CPU is getting hot. It looks like your system locks up to protect itself from overheating. Have you considered updating drivers or checking for software conflicts? Also, try running a stress test on the GPU and CPU to see if that triggers the problem. Let me know how it goes!
It's unusual but not uncommon for this behavior. It shouldn't interfere with your headphones or speakers. The device can get loud naturally, and it may slow down to manage heat. Have you verified the temperature readings? Was it cleaned recently? This model is about two years old, so the fans or vents might be fully obstructed.
Thanks for your response! I’ve cleaned the laptop and confirmed it’s not the problem. The temperatures checked via hardwareinfo64 show the CPU reaching over 90°C before the PC freezes, and the GPU is also running at around 60-70°C. The store in Spain offered a one-year warranty, but I purchased it directly from Gigabyte with a two-year warranty after registering it. I’m worried this might be the only option to resolve the issue.
The temperatures are higher when the system is under stress, such as during intense gaming sessions. An Intel i7-10870H processor reaches around 100°C at junction temperature, which means staying above 90°C isn’t overly problematic, especially if it’s operating under load. It might not be a major issue unless you’re pushing it hard. Improving performance could involve throttling control and slight undervolting, though it shouldn’t lead to lockups. Reducing voltage too much won’t lower temps effectively and could cause instability—so finding the right balance is key. During idle and regular use, testing for freezing is important. The GPU tends to stay cool under load, rarely throttling before reaching about 87°C. If you’ve maintained your laptops well—keeping them clean, updating thermal paste, ensuring good airflow—they usually handle high temps without problems. Thermal issues seem unlikely; power delivery or component faults (like a bad MMO or power supply) could be the real culprits. If it’s still under warranty, I’d recommend checking that first.
I am starting to suspect that it must be some motherboard problem. When I play a game under heavy load I get problems. First 5 minutes are normal, then sound gets distorted, 5 minutes later fans go to max speed then black screen. Only way to get the computer to respond after that is to hold down the power button. Sound distortion does not happen if I connect a bluetooth speaker instead of wired AUX headphones. The problems are weird and unlike what I am used to. I have not had many laptops but I have built many PC's. I will talk to the people I bought it from and will try get a new on warranty if not then I guess I will open it, repaste and then undervolt GPU and CPU to see if that makes it better. As long as I can play games on low settings without the laptop screen going black and having to reset every time after 5 minutes would be nice. I can play old games though like Starcraft brood war and old Command and conquer games. Time to dig up the good old games.
