I'm having trouble with my laptop. It's a Lenovo IdeaPad Model Y510P. It's pretty old, about 8 or 9 years old. The battery got really bad right away after I bought it, maybe just two years later. So for the last few years, I've been using this computer without a battery (just plugged in). The problem started almost one year ago. One day, it wouldn't turn on at all. We thought it was broken and used another desktop instead. But about a week after that, we tried turning it back on just to see if it worked, and suddenly it started working normally! Since I was using it fine, I didn't bother checking for more issues. Then the same thing happened again several times every few weeks or so. After a while, we figured out something: every time the laptop gets unplugged, it stops working. So for the last month or two, we've tried to keep it plugged in all the time (even though we have turned the computer off several times). For almost a year, I never unplugged it. Now this summer, we went on vacation to another country and stayed there for over a month, so we brought the laptop with us. When we got here, it wouldn't turn on for a few days, but then it worked normally again. One day, the power cord was tripped and unplugged while the computer was actually running. Since that happened (several weeks ago), the laptop has shown no signs of life at all (no lights up anything). I don't think the power supply is the main problem, though it's still possible. Does anyone know what could be wrong? It's an old laptop, so there might not really be another way to fix it than just buying a new one, but if someone knows how to fix it, that would be amazing!

Welcome to the forums! It has been used without a battery (so it just plugs in). Get a real battery from a store, then do a few charge and discharge cycles. You might want to take the laptop apart and check the power delivery on the board for any broken parts.

Hi, you can try taking the battery out. Unplug the laptop too. Press the power button for a few moments and hold it down for about 15 seconds to drain any electricity from the battery. Check that the battery is actually empty now. Make sure the voltage reads 3.3 volts when plugged in. Put the laptop back on and see if it turns on. If you want, go to the Lenovo website to try updating the BIOS settings. This step is really important for these models. If there isn't any other damage on the motherboard, a problem with the BIOS might be what's happening. You can test this by trying to use the computer again and see if it works.
