I recently purchased a new rog zephyrus m16 (i7 12700, rtx 3060) laptop that appeared to function properly until last night when I heard an unusual buzzing or grinding noise. After troubleshooting, I’m still unsure what’s causing it—it isn’t related to the fan or speakers. I’ve changed my RAM from 8GB DDR5 to 16GB and added a 1TB Samsung SSD, but I’m not sure if those changes helped. Is there a solution? Should I consider returning it for a replacement?

It resembles a faint buzzing sound similar to a bee, paired with a microwave-like hum.

I'm trying to grasp what you're saying. The sound feels like static with an electric vibe, changing unpredictably in volume. It doesn't stay consistent; it can get louder or quieter. I haven't seen much change when the device is running at different levels. Usually, I just catch it faintly while using it normally.

I noticed the buzzing came from heat pipes and sticky materials or similar substances.

I'm not sure about your situation. I don't know if it's something you should worry about, whether it will improve over time, or why it began. Also, I don't have information on whether the laptop is defective.

Many questions, a few answers: -Don't worry too much unless other issues arise -If heat pipes and something sticky are involved, it should resolve once dried -Possibly many factors contributed, likely when you opened it and adhesive was present -It’s probably not serious, just watch for further signs.

It seems like the audio might resemble coil whine, and you're definitely right about a new laptop producing strange crackling noises. That definitely sounds familiar if it was you.

It was tough to grasp with my phone, so you need to crank the volume up quite a bit to understand it clearly. Laptop.m4a
